Moving on to Prep

Caterpillar Class (2/3 years) Caters for younger children and the focus with this group is a combination of free play and adult led activities our indoor and outdoor areas. The focus will be linked to our topic and book of the week.

This group attend specialist Music lessons twice a week in the Music Room.

Jolly Phonics continues to be considered the more effective method of multi-sensory learning sounds and letters. The Nursery are introduced to Jolly Phonics through a range of hands-on, audible and interactive sessions. This gives the children an introduction to early reading skills.

In addition, each child will select a book from the Nursery library to share at home on a weekly basis.

Butterfly Class (3/4 years)

Caters for the older children preparing for introduction to school. The children continue to learn through play experiences with more adult led structured learning in preparation for Reception class.

As Butterfly Class continue with Jolly Phonics, the sessions become practical and creative with a higher level of written activity. The sessions are supported in Library Time. The group also has a shared story time to become familiar with Reception.

Music remains an important focus with two music sessions per week in the Music Room working towards performances and building skills.

PE lessons take place weekly to promote physical development and motor skills.

The children will attend assembly in the main hall enabling them to share school life with the whole school.
